4. Disempowering by Assumption “Digital Natives” and the EU Civic Web Project
By:
Shakuntala Banaji
People integrate new
media and technology into the ensemble of their existing media practices, and
into the process and relationships of daily life. While media do possess
particular potentialities or affordances, these will be realized (or not
realized) in different ways by different people in different social
context. (Page 63)
I would not exactly say that I am a Digital Immigrant. I
have always like technology from the time pong came out or packman, if that
counts as technology. I agree with
statement, I use social media for research, doing homework checking craft
projects on Pinterest, twitter and for shopping. In the case of the digital
natives who live in my house their use of technology is FaceTime, snap chat, iTunes,
Instagram and YouTube. Even though we share technologies our use of it is very
different. My children who have relatives from New Jersey to Puerto Rico are
always sharing snap chats back and forth so I totally agree with this quote.
Chapter 5. Japanese Youth and Mobile Media by: Toshie Takahasi
Mobile media momentarily and situationally connects
individuals, time, places, and cultures together, beyond clear boundaries
between the public and private. (Page 74)
Children and young people, defined as digital natives, have
become and attractive target for marketing. They have led the technological development
of mobile media largely due to the creative ways they use this technology,
especially in Japan. (Page 79)
I use an IPhone 5 and the digital natives in my home all use
an iPhone 6 which is so bazar to me because it looks like a mini iPad. This
makes no sense to me however, it is the latest trend from apple and its
technology, and now with the apple watch who knows what will become of the iPhone.
The mere fact that the digital natives love their technology also includes all
the new gadgets that go with their technology use. For them it’s all about self-image,
trends and how they communicate. I totally agree with this quote.

6. Analyzing Students’ Multimodal Text the Product and Process
By Mike
Levy and Rowan Michael
From our analysis, it is also evident that regardless of their
technical fluency, students still require traditional skills for successful
task completion. Student’s lexico-grammatical skills, such as spelling, sentence
construction, and choice lexis, all influenced their ability to complete the
task and contributed to quality of the final product. (Page 95)
I also agree with this quote, we must build a vocabulary
base in order to create or construct appropriate language not just for the use
of technology but for all writing and reading purposes. The use of any type of
technology device does not make it right to misspell or use acronyms to shorten
a sentence or statement.
I chose this picture because its one I see often among our digital natives. I posted the OMG! why can't people spell because it was exactly we I discussed in my statements above. We should text correct grammar in a complete sentence.
