Introduction
Quote – In contemporary societies, we must now include texts created via digital technologies when we speak of the texts that cocoon us in our everyday lives and allow us to make our way through the city as we navigate our various social, political, cultural and economic obligations.
Chapter 1. Young Peoples Video Productions as New Sites of Learning by Rebekah Willett
Quote – One of the important developments for young people producing media is the ease of sharing their work with a potentially global audience.
I totally agree with this statement, It is statistically proven by data created and collected from Facebook, Instagram and snap chat to name a few that young people post their information all over the social media spectrum. This is a global network complied by an online society that is not constricted by a single space, place or time. To go even further let’s consider YouTube, young people today are creating, watching and posting videos created by a smart phone. Young people are also sharing it worldwide to see how many people actually viewed their video and if any one posted a comments to their video.
Chapter 2. A Space for Play: Crossing Boundaries and Learning Online by Julia Davies
Quote – Literacy is not just about decoding marks on a page; it is about performing social acts of meaning, where meanings and practices vary according to context (Barton and Hamilton, 1998; Street, 1997).
I agree with this quote it’s all about how you communicate and in the appropriate manner that works best for you and your audience. This would be a presentation with simple formalities that convey your message without confusion. This process could be through pictures, text or a video.
Chapter 3.Masters and Critics: Children as Producers of Online Digital Texts. By Clare Dowdall
Quote-One key difference that has been observed is that new technologies allow children unprecedented power and authority as publishers and discriminators of text (Bearne, 2005; Kress, 2003).
This statement is true, when children are given the opportunity to create something online or on paper we all know there is a power of, this is mine because I created it. When they post their work for example the young boy in the TED Talk video I posted on my blog there is a sense of owner ship and accomplishment. This is because they are the creator and publisher of their own works. This would also apply when students work together to collaborate on class projects. Some student s will record the process, others will write, and others will be the actors. But it all comes back to it being their work.
